A person's marital status is often a source of much discussion; especially if divorce and remarriage have occurred or if an individual is getting well on in adult life and is not yet married. Much needless misunderstanding and unnecessary pressure can be avoided if we more clearly understand the teachings of Scripture about three major areas of practical living: marriage, divorce and the single life. Jesus addressed these issues directly in His confrontation with the Pharisees in Matthew 19. The Apostle Paul gave added revelation in 1 Corinthians 7 as he answered specific questions addressed to him by first-century believers at Corinth. The need for teaching on these subjects is no less today than it was when Christ and Paul first addressed these subjects, almost two thousand years ago.
